Prishtina soul, Berlin base, Chile bound

Ever wondered who the wimmelaparents are, what we’re all about, and why we’re actually here?

While we cherish our deep roots and the incredible family support we have back in Kosovo, we chose the vibrant, beautifully chaotic energy of Berlin as our launchpad. For seven years, we’ve built this life without family nearby, leaning instead on the wonderful neighbors, friends, and community we’ve created from scratch. We aren’t just living abroad, we are building a multi-local life that refuses to stand still. We are anchored in Prishtina, based in Germany, and connected to the world, particularly Chile.

Two Careers, One Shared Toolkit

Our professional paths reflect exactly how we manage our life dynamics:

· One of us navigates the “Cloud,” architecting the digital systems that keep our mobile lifestyle functioning seamlessly (No, not a meteorologist—even though the school teacher in Berlin thought so :))

· The other focuses on education, researching how systems, institutions, learning and training models, skills and career paths evolve across borders. This work is the current bridge of one of us to Chile... but that’s a story of its own! :)

Across both of our fields, we’ve offloaded the heavy lifting to AI. But we don’t just blindly trust it. With 15 years of professional experience under our belts, quality assurance has become our superpower - we question everything AI generates. Whether we’re wrestling with code or analyzing educational data, our “AI interns” handle the routine tasks so we can focus on what actually matters to us. But it’s not just our AI interns supporting us on this path! It’s the incredible human beings around us, too. It’s the wimmelbiologist, who brings an unmatched passion for Kosovo’s nature and the flora and fauna of the Balkans. It’s the wimmelcousin (the “tezaku”), our go-to enthusiast for all things digital, social media, and navigating the evolving role and integration of AI at work. And it’s our friends who pass along the most beautiful parenting and children’s books, life-with-kids hacks, and everything in between, from one corner of the globe to the other. Last but not least, it’s our kids whom we learn so much from—how they think, how they build and lose their train of thought, how they raise questions and question everything (a special nod to our first child, a.k.a. the Queen of Wisdom), and how they come up with the funniest jokes and brighten even our most challenging moments with laughter (particularly our second child, a.k.a. the Queen of Sevda/love and passion).

Life at Home (and on the Move)

Our home is a wonderful chaos of board games, blocks, and hands-on Montessori math materials, plus an endless rotating stack of goodies borrowed from Berlin’s public libraries. When we aren’t making our own custom toys, we’ve actually started introducing our kids to the Nintendo Switch. Before you judge: why not?! Studies show that a little supervised screen time with certain Nintendo games is actually fantastic for cognitive development - but more on that in our upcoming posts! So, until then bring on the Mario Kart! It’s all about mixing high-tech fun with good old-fashioned imagination!

We talk, talk, talk, and listen, listen, listen to our kids, because oh, how we want to build that emotional intelligence. The odds are we’re still going to get it wrong once they hit their teenage years and start trusting their peers more than us! But we are certain of one thing: we are doing our absolute best (just like you) to raise them with intention. We won’t use trendy labels or adjectives here - every family should define those goals based on their own priorities and parenting style, even if that style is just ‘parent-as-you-go. Because honestly, who are we to tell you how to parent? After all, we’re all just figuring this out as we go.

The Bigger Picture

We study how education and careers survive a life in motion because, frankly, we are our own primary case study. From the “wimmeling” streets of Berlin to the data and narration-driven insights of our research, we’ve learned a simple truth: if things aren’t a little messy, you aren’t truly living.

We actually started this beautiful journey of sharing the Wimmelparents voice online back in 2018. But life got crazy. Navigating the pandemic in Germany (which was incredibly tough), raising two kids without family around, and trying to grow both vertically and horizontally in our careers meant we simply didn’t have the environment or the bandwidth to share our experiences back then. The pandemic changed the world forever, but it only strengthened our resolve. We are living proof that you can stay deeply grounded in your heritage while your career and your impact reach across oceans.

Now, we are finally here to share the global knowledge we gather as passionate, lifelong learners, swap real-life experiences, and both give and receive support within our wonderful community. Our goal is to promote reading comprehension, bring nature back to our kids, and champion the beauty of an unplugged childhood. But at the same time, we want to help parents navigate the digital confusion of our modern world, catching up with the rapid dynamics of generative AI and social media without losing our grounding.

Along the way, we want to give back however we can, whether that’s donating physical books to our community or sharing the earned wisdom we’ve gained through them and lived experience. Whether you decide to jump in or leave for now, it’s entirely up to you! We still thank you for dropping by….
